240. Find the D.R. Position by Mercator Sailing after steering the following Courses: –
a. 265º T. for 1000 miles from Beirut (Lat. 33º 57.0 N. Long. 35º 30.0 E.) to Tripoli, Libya.
∴ Final Position of yacht 265º (T) @ 1000 nm = Lat 32º 29.8’ N Long 15º 44.1’E
b. 114º T. for 912 miles from Jamaica (Lat. 17º 50.0 N. Long. 76º 53.0 W.) to Trinidad.
∴ Final Position of yacht 114º (T) @ 912 nm = Lat 11º 39.1’ N Long 62º 36.6’ W
c. 050º T. for 1020 miles from Sydney (Lat. 33º 50.0 S. Long. 151º 19.0 E.) to Noumea
241. On 15th Jul a motor yacht sailed from a noon fix in Lat. 39º 40.0 N. Long 40º 30.0 W. log set to zero, on a Course of 130º T. Find the Motor Yacht’s D.R. Position at noon onthe 16th Jul.
Extracts from her log read as follows: –
15th 16:00 Log 31 a/c 202º T.
20:00 Log 60 a/c 113º T.
16th 01:00 Log 96 a/c 345º T.
12:00 Log 178
Vessel D.R. on 15th July = Latitude 39º40’N Long 40º30’W – Required D.R. Position @ 12:00 hrs 16th July.
∴ Position of Motor Vessel 12:00 16th July = Latitude 39 58.3’ N Longitude 39 58.2’ W
242. At noon 02nd Aug a yacht obtained a fix in which Lizard Pt L/Ho (Lat. 49º 58.0 N. Long.05º 12.0W.) was bearing 026º T. distant 12 miles, when she was steering 281º C., log set to zero, wind N. Dev. 11º W., leeway 8º. A current set the yacht 298º, 6 miles, during the day. Correct the above courses for variation, Dev. and leeway.
Find the yacht’s E.P. at noon on 03rd Aug and her Estimated Course and Distance Made Good during the day.
Her log book for the following day read as follows: –
Date Time Log Wind Lee Dev Remarks
